New Clinesmith 10 String on the way.

Post by Kevin Shiflett »

This instrument comes with a little story.

I had been searching for a currently made 8 string 22.5 scale lap steel.
Was not having any luck, everything I found was long scale in 8 string configuration.
Was considering buying something vintage but didn't like the idea of buying something from the 40-50s without being able to check it first.

Enter Todd Clinesmith.
I called to ask about current lead times and what I was looking for.
The lead times are around a year.
However, he did have a 10 string with a body style he's been developing for a while and plans to add it to his lineup of models.

All that was left on the build was to finish up the nut.

Here's its specs.
It has a scale length of 22.875.
The body is 3 piece Hard Curly Maple.
With a Curly Maple book matched top with black binding on the top.
The Fretboard is also Curly Maple with Black dots , frets and binding
Tuning High to Low:
G,E,C,A,G,E,C,Bb,G,C

Pricing was in line with his other lap steels but I can't say what they will run for sure when he adds them to the lineup.

Quite happy with the deal. A Bigsby style pickup like I always wanted and no lead time. Took less than a second to make my decision to buy :D

That's beautiful! Todd does such exquisite work.

I've got a D10 Joaquin on the waiting list, really looking forward to it!!! :D

That is a beautiful instrument and what great luck - seems like it was meant to be! Congrats.

What a knockout!
We finally get a hint of what he's been building in there. You got yourself a museum piece and you get to play it, too. WOW!

Wonderful! So cool for you to have one of the first of the new style.

I got my first Clinesmith a few months ago when I got myself a Joaquin 10 string that I adore!
