Hoot Borden passes, funeral arrangments added.

Post by Johnny Cox »

My friend and mentor Hoot Borden passed away this morning. Hoot was a drummer in the 50s and 60s for many of the great western swing bands including Bob and Johnny Lee Wills and Hoyle Nix. Hoot moved to Nashville in the late sixties to drive bus for Ernest Tubb. Hoot has driven for many of the worlds greatest entertainers and has been mentor to many entertainer bus drivers. Hoot was one of my best friends as well as is his son Jerry Don. Our prayers are with his family. I will post arrangments as soon as they are available.

The visitation for James G. "Hoot" Borden will be Wed. 5/5 from 1pm to 8pm and again on Thurs. from 1pm to 3pm. Funeral is Thurs. @ 3pm.

This is sad news. A lot of miles have passed under his drivers seat. I last saw Hoot when he was driving for George Benson some years ago and got to visit with him. I remember seeing him many times at the ET shows when I was a kid. I'm going to let my mom know. My condolences to his family.

Johnny, I just heard the news from Dave Thornhill. This is really sad news. Everyone loved Hoot. We're losing a whole generation of friends, peers, mentors and such. Hoot was a class act in every sense of the word. I'm thankful for being able to call people like Hoot my friend. RIP Hoot.

It certainly is with sorrow that I read this posting. Hoot was one of the gentle ones I've met in my lifetime. Our condolences to the family and if there is a Heaven, Hoot made the trip.
