Chester Thompson, N. C. radio personality

Post by Clyde Mattocks »

Chester Thompson, well known country DJ in the Goldsboro, N. C. area died Sunday, August 16
after being critically injured in an automobile accident about ten days ago. His career reached back into the fifties and he was still active at WFMC-AM. He played traditional country and bluegrass
and would feature local artists records and interview them. He was a beloved regional figure and
a holdover from the glory days of local AM radio.

My information was that he had finished his air shift and gone home and remembered he had left something at the station and was on his way back.

Rest in peace, old friend.

It's always a tragedy when one of our icons leaves us. I was also in for a short while during the Golden days of radio. That was back when you heard good music and were also entertained. They were personalities back then and I still miss those days. May he rest in peace and GOD speed to his family, friends and fans.
